Rescue crews spent several minutes freeing Logsdon from the wreckage before taking him by ambulance to Wesley Medical Center. The head-on collision sent Logsdon’s vehicle into a bridge abutment on the north side of First Street. ![]() Sheriff Byron Motter said it was unclear why Logsdon’s vehicle veered left of the street’s center line. Logsdon’s vehicle crossed the center line of the two-lane road and collided with Hett’s four-door sedan. Harvey County sheriff’s authorities said Logsdon was driving a mini-van west on First Street, and Hett was driving east. Hett, 65, of Marion was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Logsdon, 36, of Elbing, photographer for the Newton newspaper for the past five years, was taken to a Wichita hospital, where he died. Two people, including The Newton Kansan photo editor Medford Logsdon, were killed Tuesday when their vehicles collided on East First Street in Harvey County. ![]()
